Oscar Awards 2014

Twelve Years of Slave was honored with the Best Picture award during the 2014 Academy awards ceremony. The film which received many international film awards and accolades and 2013 and 2014 teaches Hollywood a valuable lesson. Complicated and controversial films are worth making and audiences do care about social injustice topics. The award winning film was based on a true story about a free man sold into slavery during the brutal period in America History. Lupita Nyong’o’s brilliant performance was honored by the best supporting actress trophy. Overall the film was recognized with three Oscar awards that night, best adapted screenplay, best picture and best supporting actress.

MTV Awards nominees

Riding the curtails of Oscar buzz MTV announced their 2014 award nominations. American Hustle and The Wolf of the Wall street will be competing in the most award categories since two of these features are leading the nominations pack. MTV awards is geared towards younger audiences, with many of the trophy categories feature such novel titles as: best kiss, best villain and best fight. Robert DeNiro, Joan Rivers and Rihana are all competing for the Best cameo performance award. While Steve Carell, Orlando Bloom and Jennifer Lawrence are pitted against each other for the best fight trophy.

Shorty Awards Finalists

The sixth annual short media themed awards announced their finalists for 2014 awards gala that will take place in NY on April 7th. The shorty awards recognize top achievements in social media innovation as well as entertainment. There are forty four award categories, and the panel of judges is comprised of journalist and viewers alike. People can tweet their choice of award candidates to the panel. Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul is leading the top charts for award entries.

Latin Music Awards 2014

The complete list of the finalist for the Billboard Latin awards was announced for the ceremony that will take place on April 24th. The award contenders come from a list of seasoned performers such as Marc Anthony as well as new kids on the block like Prince Royce. Marc Anthony who owns a very impressive collection of music awards and trophies is nominated in sixteen categories, including the Artist of The Year award.

WGA Awards 2014

Last Sunday, the Writers Guild Of America recognized Hollywood's most accomplished screenplay writers at their annual awards gala. The awards show was hosted by Brad Garrett, who had a long and successful carrier both in film and television. Billy Ray was the recipient of the most coveted award of the night for adapted screenplay of “Captain Phillips”. In his gracious acceptance speech, Ray dedicated his award to every writer in the room who deserve the honor and luck of being recognized.

Gravity Lends 7 Oscar awards

This years Oscars award ceremony featured a very diverse selection of films competing for the Best Picture trophy. Nine very different movies were nominated for the award in the top category. These films covered a wide verity of social and emotional issues: from space exploration, financial greed, modern day pirates and social injustice. The biggest winner of the Oscars was Gravity, the film received seven awards that night, among them the award for Best director. Alfonso Cuaron, who directed Gravity, had a very successful award season scoring top trophies at BAFTA, Golden Globe and the Directors Guild.

Capri Film festival awards

A new movie featuring two Hollywood legends Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts has scored four awards at the Capri Film Festival. Best Actress award was presented to Streep for her performance in August Osage County, a film about a dysfunctional family reunion. In addition, the picture also won Film of the Year award. The Capri film festival has been known to predict major Academy awards wins.

National Book Awards

Jhumpa Lahiri was lucky to receive a second chance for a prestigious literary award in 2013. The writer who holds a double citizenship was able to qualify for two awards: Britain's Man Booker Prize and American National Books award. Last week the number of candidates was reduced from 40 to 20 and she is still in the running.

Man Booker Prize is the most prestigious literary award in Great Britain awarded annually to the most talented writer of the year. 2013 marks the beginning of a new era for the young, beginner writers as Eleanor Catton age 28 wins the award for her second novel "The Luminaries". The relatively young writer in literary terms, thanked her publishers during the award acceptance speech for sticking with her through the end. Only British citizens are allowed to compete for Man Booker prize, however next year American writers will be allowed to compete for the award.

Humanitarian award recognizes Mariel Hemingway

Among many accolades during the 2013 San Diego film festival a special award of recognition was presented to actress Mariel Hemingway the granddaughter of famous American writer Ernest Hemingway. Mariel received Humanitarian award for her brave and soul searching documentary about history of mental illness in her family. She documented challenges such as lack of diagnosis and societal stigma associated with mental illnesses. In her acceptance speech, Mariel expressed hope that the award will bring attention to this important issue and encourage people seek help.

Hillary Clinton Accepts Award of Merit

During her 40th Year reunion at Yale Law School, former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton received an award of Merit which followed be a nostalgic and inspiring speech. Mrs Clinton recounted her personal experiences at her alma mater, and how turbulent political times of late sixties helped shape her world view. Hillary was presented the award for her work in the Clinton Foundation which focuses on welfare of children and women. Mrs Clinton has been a passionate advocate of women rights and in adequate access to early education.

American Cinematheque awards winner announced

The 27th ceremony of American Cinematheque awards will be held in December at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The organization announced that this year award recipient will be Jerry Bruckheimer, a veteran of the film and television production, with an impressive list of projects under his belt: "Top Gun", "Black Hawk Down", "CSI". In the 27 years of Cinematheque Awards history, Jerry will be the first producer to receive this accolade. Past recipients of the award were actors of the top Hollywood echelon including Julia Roberts, George Clooney and Matt Damon. Jerry is recognized for his creative genius, work ethics, and his monumental accomplishments as a producer.

The White House hosts Design Awards luncheon

This years National Design Awards recipients were treated to a luncheon hosted by the First Lady Michelle Obama. The mission of the National award program is to celebrate design as "vital humanistic tool in shaping the world". During the awards luncheon the First Lady gave a short speech praising creative achievements of the winners and encouraging them to continue on their path. The list of award recipients included architects, interior designers, media creatives, graphic and print designers. In addition, Target foundation sponsored teen design awards, which were presented to young students aspiring for carriers in design industries.

MacArthur Genius Award recipients announced

Receiving an award from MacArthur foundation is an ultimate recognition of artistic or scientific genius. Each year MacArthur Foundation awards grants to a group of most creative individuals who strive to build a more peaceful and just world. The award is presented to a broad spectrum of creative individuals: artists, writers, human rights activists, scientist. This year the foundation selected twenty four award recipients and granted them with a generous monetary grants no strings attached.

TIFF People's Choice Award

Historically winning an award at the Toronto International Film Festival was a good indicator of commercial success for the movies. Even if the films were not conceived in the Hollywood fashion or for broad audiences, awards received at the festivals put the movies in a different spotlight. This year one of the most recognized and coveted film awards - People's Choice was awarded to an emotional drama "12 Years of Slave". As the name suggests the movie focuses on emotionally heavy topics which may not be attractive to an average movie goer. However, by receiving the Peoples Choice award, the movie will attract additional attention in the media and hopefully people will be encouraged to see it.

Maestro Award recipient announced

In the world of music produced for film and television, one name stands out above the rest and that is T Bone Burnett. Billboard magazine will present the Maestro award to Burnett on October 30th during the Television Music Conference in LA. Burnett will be recognized with this special award for his past and present contributions to the film music. He produced scores to cinema blockbusters such as Crazy Heart and The Hunger Games. Previous winners of the Maestro award were Diane Warren and Danny Elfman.

Gramophone Awards reflect the shift in classic music

Once the most coveted music trophy, the British Gramophone awards are mostly unknown outside the classic music scene. The awards celebrated their 90th anniversary with a bitter sweet reflection on golden era of classic music that is alien to most of the contemporary music crowd. Along with the listeners base, the list of award nominees is shrinking. This year the awards cut back in a five categories, no longer offering recital, piano prize and DVD performance prizes. Similarly, two years ago Grammy Awards also eliminated some classic music categories.

President Obama awards Medal of Honor

The highest military recognition award - the Medal of Honor was presented to U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ty Carter by the President during the White House ceremony. Sergeant Carter was awarded for displaying selfless courage and heroism in a battle during his Afghanistan tour of duty. Unarmed Sgt. Carter carried a wounded soldier through intense enemy fire to safety. While presenting the award to Carter, President Obama also commended him for openly speaking out about his post traumatic stress disorder and encouraging other war veterans to seek help.

NHL Trophies tour Buffalo

A New York team did win the most coveted hokey trophy this year. However NY as a state did contribute many brilliant players who contended for the trophy this year. And therefore it is only fair that NY gets to see the Stanley cup trophy delivered by its own south Buffalo native. Chicago's most beloved Blackhawk - Pat Kane had the honor of unveiling the Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe trophies to Niagara Falls Air Reserve hokey fans. The presentation ceremony was very special to the US reservists at the Air base.

Surfing Champions Trophy to be contested in Maldives

The 2013 Surfing Champions trophy will be up for grabs to the most courageous and skilled surfers worldwide during the August - September invitational competition. In addition to the trophy the winners will also take home a cash prize of 25K US. The tournament will feature three technical divisions: single fin, twin fin and triple fin. Among the brave contestants is an Australian female surfer who is a legend in her own right, becoming a pro at the age of 16 and winning seven ASP world tour awards.

Rookie of the Year award selling for $1 million

The first ever baseball Rookie of the year award issued to a groundbreaking baseball legend Jackie Robinson in 1947 is being auctioned in Chicago with the bids starting at a cool one million dollars. This award is one of the rarest trophies in sports memorabilia and therefore comes with a high price tag. The award features a wooden plaque backing with a gold plated baseball figurine affixed at the front. The gold metal plate is engraved with a special commemoration to Jackie Robinson.

Gotham Awards announce a special recognition tribute

Independent Film awards is the first awards ceremony in the season for the entertainment industry. While the list of award nominees is still being submitted by the industry professionals, a special tribute to the commissioner of the New York City office of Media is announced. Diamond Award for Justin

A surprise award leaves an outspoken singer speechless. During his recent on-stage performance Justin Bieber was presented with a recording industry's Diamond award, recognizing the 12th million sales of the hit Baby. His manager surprised him with interrupting the performance to present the award, followed by a short speech. Justine was generously surprised and gasping for right words before deciding to dedicate this award to his young fans.

Outstanding Community Service award

Outstanding Community Service award will be presented to Hillary Clinton during the 2013 benefit of New York non profit organization God's love we deliver. The award will recognize formers secretary of state commitment and involvement with humanitarian causes. The award will be presented by American fashion designer Michael Kors and the Vogues editor in chief Anna Wintour. The benefit will raise awareness and funds for providing food and counseling to residents of New York with sever illnesses.

Robin Roberts wins Arthur Ashe Courage award

This year the ESPY courage award celebrated the sports corresponded with ESPN and ABC, Robin Roberts, who in the past five years bravely fought and won battles with breast cancer and MDS which required multiple surgeries and treatments, and became a spokesperson for battling breast cancer. The award recognized Roberts courageous activism and raising public awareness, which consequently lead to two thousand percent increase in the national bone marrow donor registry. The award was presented by LeBron James as Robin received a standing ovation from the audience.

LeBron James wins 3 ESPY awards

Miami Heat basketball star added three more awards to his already impressive trophy collection. The 2013 ESPY awards ceremony that recognized a wide range of sports celebrities for their athletic and career merits singled LeBron as the top winner presenting him with the Male Athlete of the Year award. Four American athletes were competing in this award ceremony and when LeBron's win was announced he joked that the trophy was won by all of them , only he indented to keep it in his house. The good humored athlete also won three awards at the last years ESPY ceremony.

2013 Daytime Emmy Awards

The celebration of the 40th Daytime Emmy Awards took place in Beverly Hills California with many long running shows competing for the most prestigious television awards in the industry. One of the big surprises was a win of “Days of Our Lives” who received its last best drama award in 1978. “Days” also received an outstanding young actor award. As a network CBS scored 21 awards with PBS scoring second in 14 wins.

Stanley Cup returns to Chicago

Most coveted trophy in hockey the Stanley Cup is coming back to Chicago after three years. The destiny of the trophy was decided in just 17 seconds when Blackhawks scored two goals and won the game. The trophy was commissioned by Lord Stanley in 1892 in order to promote amateur hokey clubs in Canada. Lord Stanley's entire family played hockey including his sons and daughters. There are three Stanley cup trophies in circulation: the original cup, the presentation cup and the replica at the Hall of Fame. NHL does not own the trophies but uses it by agreement with trustees. Unlike other trophies awarded by sport associations, a new award cup is not produced each year, and the winners get to keep it only for a year until the new champion is announced. Names of coaches and players of each winning team are engraved on the five band - rings of the award.

2013 Tony Awards

It was a stars studded affair at the 67th Tony Awards with many Broadway and Hollywood biggest names dazzling in the lime lights on the red carpet. Two British musicals dominated the awards ceremony with “Kinky Boots” scoring six Tony awards and “Matilda” winning four. The Best musical award went to “Kinky Boots” for an original feel good story about a revival of a shoe factory. Chicago's own Steppenwolf theater brought home six Tony awards for its two critically acclaimed productions.

2013 NHL Awards

NHL concluded its 2013 season awards presentation last Sunday. Sidney Crosby who plays for Pittsburgh Penguins received his career second Ted Lindsay award traditionally presented to the most outstanding player in the league. This award nomination is voted by NHL players across all the teams and therefore is the highest accolade of recognition. Crosby received his first Lindsay award in the 2007 NHL Season. Alex Ovechkin also added a third MVP award to his trophy collection.

Obama Campaign scores a Webby Award

An unlikely candidate among other Webby award winners, American President, wins a 2012 Webby award, which recognizes his savvy political and tech genius during 2012 election campaign. Obama's award and presidency winning 2012 election campaign targeted and attracted voters based on their digital footprint and social media. Massive database and data-sources were compiled and analyzed in order to asses voters interest in public issues and their tendency to vote for a particular candidate. This would be the first Webby award win for our President.

Chicago Goalies win NHL trophies

Chicago Black hawks goalies Crawford and Emery shared their first William M. Jennings trophy. This prestigious goaltender trophy is awarded to goalies for allowing the least number of goals during the regular season. Ranked third and fourth respectively on the NHL raster, Crawford and Emery are essential to the teams chances in a race to win the most coveted hockey trophy of all times - the Stanley Cup.

Both musicals are British imports and although they touch upon very different subjects, they receive equal praise from the critics. The musicals are nominated collectively for 25 awards and they will be the major contenders at the 2013 award ceremony.

85th Annual Oscar Awards

For the 85th time millions of movie goers worldwide tuned in to watch the most acclaimed award ceremony in the entertainment industry. This years Oscars recognized exceptional films actors and directors. Argo, which won the best picture award, was also recognized for editing and screenplay adaptation. The Life of Pie won four awards, among them score, cinematography and directing. While accepting the best director award, Lee thanked Movie God for his fortune. Spilberg's Lincoln received 11 Oscar nominations but only won two awards. The biggest winner of the night was Daniel Day-Lewis who now holds the record for three lead actor awards ever won in the Oscars history.

D.I.C.E. Awards 2013

Upon the commencement of D.I.C.E award ceremony in Las Vegas which took place in February 2013, the developers of Journey walked away with 8 awards. The PlayStation video game Journey clearly dominated the awards night almost in every category and was a biggest winner holding the title of the Video Game of the Year. D.I.C.E awards were established 16 years ago to recognize art, innovation and creativity of the video game developers and creators.

Grammy Awards 2013

The 55th annual Grammy awards show surprised its viewers with the unexpected wins by relatively new recording artists. An Australian singer Gotye, who was not a part of the major music scene until his recent single, won awards in three categories, including record of the year. New Orleans singer Frank Ocean receives a standing ovation as he snagged up two awards in urban category.

Music Teacher Award

Niel Portnow the president of the recording academy announced that for the first time in the Grammy history an award will be dedicated to recognize music teachers and educators which would subsequently become a new award category. Grammy foundation recognizes music education as the most essential part of their mission. Students can not nominate their music teachers on-line. The winner will have a special ceremony the day before the main event, where he or she will be presented the award in front of the students.

Kelly Clarkson snubs Grammy Awards

With Grammy awards ceremony coming up this weekend, Kelly Clekkson is not looking forward to attending the Grammys. In the past she already won two presigiouse music awards and she is nominated for three more this year. So what is troubeling the young singer? Apparently it is the attidute of the award nomenees who are not friendly or social during the ceremony. Country Music awards are much more fun, where atendees talk and hang out, add the singer.

World Championship trophies Tour

World Championship trophies are going on a tour in Central Valley, California towns which host Junior Giants program. The trophies which the team won in 2010 and 2012 will be on display and the publicity will help promoting the free non competitive leagues for kids. Fans will be able to relive their world championship glory instead of morning a loss of the Superbowl trophy.

Don Omar will dominate 2013 Billboard Latin Music Awards as he is the favorite on the long list of finalists announced today by the producers of the show. This year the awards will feature two new categories for Streaming Artist of Streaming Song of the Year. The event is sponsored by State Farm and the awards ceremony will be televised on April 25th from Miami.

Superbowl Trophy Mysterious Disappearance

February 5th, 2013
After winning the Lombardi trophy Superbowl Ravens lost track of it. When the team left the stadium and arrived at the celebratory bash the team owner Steve Bisciotti threw in their honor, they lost track of the trophy. The twenty two inch trophy weights 7 pounds and is made of silver. The team coach issued a statement that the trophy is not missing. However, some speculate that the team simply pulled our their old Superbowl trophy for the reporters in order to save themselves an embarrassment.

Cinema Vanguard Award

Hollywood Actress Amy Adams received Cinema Vanguard award at the Santa Barbara film festival. The award ceremony was hosted at The Arlington Theater on January 31st. The judging committee was impressed with Adams gutsy performance in The Master alongside Joaquin Phoenix. The Vanguard award presented to Amy Adams recognizes actresses talent and versatility.

National Book Awards

National Book Awards Foundation made an announcement about restructuring nomination and jury procedures of the most prestigious American literary award program. In the past, the Foundation has been criticized for selecting obscure writers and not been relevant with the majority of US readers. Consequently, the majority of awards and nomination do not represent the popular choice. The foundation adapted a strategy of expanding its long list of nominees to 10 books per each award category, which will total to 40 books per given year as well as expanding criteria for selecting judges from literary professions other than writers.

2013 Golden Globe Awards

The seventieth annual Golden Globe awards was a real treat to the viewers with many top Hollywood movers and shakers recognized and honored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Not surprising and well deserved top actor and actress in the television drama awards, as well as top television drama award went to the starts of the Homeland second year in a row. Multiple Grammy winning British diva Adele scored her first Golden globe award for the song Skyfall in the latest 007 movie. The best picture award was much contended by an impressive list of films and went to Argo, Ben Affleck also took a trophy for best directing and forgot to thank George Cloonie, a mistake his wife Jennifer apologized for on stage. The best actor in the motion picture win did not come as a surprise to Daniel Day-Lewis, who was by a long shot a favorite among the list of contenders in that category.
